On Sunday 17 November we will be at the Fawkner Festa in CB Smith Reserve. Come along to our stall and say hello. We will be there between 12pm and 3pm.
Update: Due to extreme weather forecast for Sunday with lightning, rain and high winds, all stalls are being moved into the Senior Citizens Centre and the Sports Hall.
We will have various climate advocacy activities and information on:
- Postcards for protecting Victoria’s Native Forests,
- Gas expansion in the Northern Territory and Don’t Frack the NT (Sign the petition), attend the Coburg Town Hall 23 November meeting.
- Sustainable Transport in Merri-bek (See our Glenroy article)
- Climate letter writing to Wills Federal MP Peter Khalil (See here and here)
The catastrophic floods in Valencia Spain has showed nowhere is now safe from Extreme rainfall events. Merri-bek, too, faces flooding risks with stormwater overland flow from increased storm intensity. But we also face increased health risks from extreme heat in heat wave conditions. It is possible Melbourne could see 50C days in the near furure.
Local Council is on the frontline for addressing impacts of climate change of overland flooding and extreme heat in the urban environment and for providing local climate adaptation and infrastructure.
But policies at the State and Federal Level are also important. Addressing the primary cause of accelerating climate change requires rapid reduction in Fossil Fuels of coal, gas and oil, largely the policy area of the Federal Government. Changing Transport habits and behaviours is primarily a state responsibility.
We work on all three levels of Government with advocacy to bring about change to a more sustainable society and circular based economy.
We are an incorporated member based organisation, free to join. Or you can subscribe to our newsletter.
We Look forward to seeing you at Fawkner, enjoying the food and entertainment.
