Merri-bek citizens elect another progressive Council in 2024

Results are in for Merri-bek Council election. Here are the new and re-elected Councillors for the eleven wards with official results from the VEC. Merri-bek will again have a progressive oriented Council.

The 2024-2028 Council will have 4 Greens, 3 ALP, 3 Independents, 1 Socialist Alliance. Four of the Councillors have been re-elected which helps maintain governance and decision making coherence on Council.

Independent Nat Abboud returns to Council repre4senting Pentridge Ward after a single term break. She was previously on Council representing the Greens but left the party and was elected as an Independent.

Lambros Tapinos (ALP) for Brunswick West, Helen Pavlidis (IND) in Westbreen, and Angelica Panopoulos (Greens) have all failed to be re-elected.

  • Harmony Park – Cr Helen Politis (ALP)
  • Pascoe Vale South – Cr Oscar Yildiz (IND) Re-elected
  • Pentridge – Cr Nat Abboud (IND)
  • Randazzo – Cr Liz Irvin (Greens)
  • Warrk-Warrk – Cr Adam Pulford (Greens) Re-elected
  • Westbreen – Cr Katerine Theodosis (ALP)

We look forward to working with all new and Re-elected Councillors on environmental and climate issues for our municipality.

Council is a key government level both for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, environmental sustainabiity and for local climate adaptation. This includes addressing issues broadly on roads, rates and rubbish, and much more.
