Locals call for strong, science-aligned emissions reduction target

Local constituents and groups have signed an open letter to Wills MP Peter Khalil calling for him to champion a strong 2035 emissions reduction target.

The letter was presented to Khalil’s staff during the Tuesday morning climate vigil which is being held weekly as a reminder that we neither need nor can afford new fossil fuel expansions. ALP caucus will be deciding the 2035 target any day now as Nationally Determined Contributions – NDC – are due in September under our international obligations. Strong targets are a necessary framework for good policy to follow, and they are essential for keeping to 1.5 degrees warming.

The open letter is still ‘live’ and local individuals and groups/clubs/businesses are welcome to sign it via this link.
