‘Join the action to stop coal pollution

The Albanese government has approved yet another coal mine extension, bringing the total number of fossil fuel approvals to 35 since the government was elected in 2022.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese promised climate action. Instead he’s approving more polluting coal mines.

Climate Action Merri-Bek will be reaching out to community members to ensure they know about this.

The latest approval, for extension of the Middlemount coal mine in Queensland, will allow the mine to go on operating until 2053 and add over 6 million tonnes of climate pollution to the atmosphere.

It makes a mockery of the government’s promise of net zero by 2050.

When will the govt protect our future and set a deadline to end coal and gas?

We will be reaching out to community members over this weekend and on Monday, at markets, railway stations and where people gather.

We have leaflets in plain language to explain exactly what’s going on.

You can help! If you’ve got a bit of time to give out leaflets in your local area, contact us on climateactionmerribek@gmail.com and we will get back to you.
