Demands for better public transport are increasing, particularly in Fawkner. For too long, Fawkner’s public transport needs have been neglected. And it’s hurting household budgets, particularly now with rising petrol prices.
Climate Action Merri-bek campaigns for better public transport. We’ve written a few blogposts about Fawkner – see below. Recently we asked Fawkner residents to write postcards to the Minister about why they wanted better public transport. We sent them to the Minister and have just got a response.

The Minister’s response was very disappointing. It was mostly information about public transport upgrades elsewhere. The only mentions relevant to Fawkner were those from last year’s budget – the 536 bus Sunday service, and an increase in frequency of off-peak services to every 20 minutes on the Upfield Line. (Neither of these have been delivered yet.)
But let’s keep up the pressure. We suggest residents write to the Minister for Public Transport and the local MP to demand better public transport for Fawkner:
- Ms Kathleen Matthews-Ward, MP for Broadmeadows, kathleen.matthews-ward@parliament.vic.gov.au
- The Hon. Gabrielle Williams, Minister for Public and Active Transport, receptionminwilliams@transport.vic.gov.au
