February 2026
Merri-bek is primarily covered by the state electoral districts of Brunswick, Pascoe Vale and Broadmeadows.
Currently Climate Action Merri-bek has a good working relationship with the three state MPs in these districts, and we hope that this will continue after the November 2026 state election.
We lobby the state government on a range of issues, including
- Active and public transport, including improving accessibility
- Climate strategy and targets
- Climate resilience and climate justice
- Increasing renewable energy and energy efficiency
- Stopping fossil fuel projects
- End to native forest logging, commitment to regeneration of native forests, science-based burning practices, preservation of forest ecologies by establishing the Great Forest National Park
- Opposing waste incineration
- Sustainable solutions to waste generally
We hope that our elected representatives are prepared to meet with us regularly to discuss various local and state issues, and exchange information and advice.
Given we are in a climate emergency, we would appreciate our MPs initiating regular climate-related briefing sessions.
We would like our MPs to take up the issues that we raise including by asking questions in parliament, writing to Ministers, sponsoring petitions.
We appreciate when our local members organise public meetings on issues of local interest, such as the Ewing Street public meeting.
Since many of the strategies to address Climate Change require a radical change in our economic systems, MPs would benefit from acquainting themselves with alternative economic systems, such as Degrowth.
We also seek practical assistance from our MPs, such as with printing leaflets for our various campaigns.
