The CPRS – making a bad scheme even worse!

Changes to the government’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme scheme announced yesterday Monday 4 May, have caused a stir in the media, between the political parties, and even between green groups. The ALP has attempted to compromise by increasing the reduction target while at the same time increasing hand outs to big polluters and delaying the introduction to the scheme.

As one caller to Australia Talks on the CPRS changes noted, this is one step forward and ten steps back.

The Climate Action Moreland has made campaigning on the CPRS a priority for us this year, and along with sixty other climate action groups from around the country co-signed a letter to Kevin Rudd criticising yesterday’s changes. In addition to highlighting problems with the scheme, this letter strongly states the 25% cut is inadequate to save the climate.

We also held a protest against this abysmal legislation at the office of our local MP Kelvin Thomson on March 27.

To get involved in our campaign against the CPRS (and learn about all our other activities), come to our next meeting at the Campbell Turnbull library 220 Melville Road, West Brunswick. Meetings are held on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month.
