Successful climate stall at the Sydney Road Street Party in Brunswick on Sunday 3 March 2024.
We had several engagement activities including QR code petitions from 350.org and Bushfire Survivors for Climate Action, Information on extreme heat days in Brunswick and Darwin in 2050 and 2090 based on Climate Council research (which we highlighted in a blogpost ), and write a short letter to our Federal Labor MP Peter Khalil calling for strong climate action.
We gave out nearly all our copies of our new leaflet. This leaflet included translations of our basic message to stop all new coal, gas and oil, into Arabic, Greek and Italian, the three languages most commonly spoken in Merri-bek after English.
Our next monthly meeting is Monday 18 March 2024, 6:30pm – 8:00pm
Location: Catalyst Centre, 144 Sydney Road, Coburg
The activity that most people were keen to do was write a brief climate letter to Peter Khalil MP.
Each letter explained in their own words why they want to see urgent climate action. The letter specifies three important asks:
And so I ask you to urge your colleagues to:
- Call a stop to all new coal, gas and oil projects
- End subsidies to fossil fuel industries & place a levy on fossil fuel
production and imports- Enhance the EPBC to include a Climate Trigger
74 letters were written. We will be delivering these letters to his electorate office in Coburg.
The Friday before the festival several members of Climate Action Merribek met to design and paint a new banner and produce signs and other material. The new banner is an old blind which we have given a second life to helping in climate communications.

Here are some highlights from our stall and of the Street Party:
