Rise Up for Climate events are taking place this May to raise the issue of climate action with the Albanese government. It is actions we need, not talk and promises, and delays in delivery of real change. In Labor electorates people are raising the need for urgent action on climate with Federal MPs.

There is a protest scheduled for Melbourne city at midday on Thursday 9 May at Treasury Place.

And protest events for Federal Labor MPs in the Northern suburbs: Ged Kearney (Cooper), Peter Khalil (Wills), and Bill Shorten (Maribyrnong) on Friday.

The basic demands of Rise for Climate are:

• No more coal and gas
• No more handouts to big coal and gas polluters, and
• deliver strong new nature laws that actually protect our wildlife from climate destruction.

These demands are very similar to demands we have put before Wills Labor MP Peter Khalil on a consistent basis since his election in 2016.

Labor knows what needs to be done. No new coal and gas, phase out fossil fuel subsidies, and implement a climate trigger in national evironment laws. The Prime Minister Anthony Albanese when he was a backbench MP introduced a climate trigger bill in 2005 during the Howard government.

Wills electorate Event (Peter Khalil):

Where: Peter Khalil’s office in Sydney Road, Coburg.
