Would you like to save money on your energy bills? Is your home cold in winter and hot in summer? Maybe you’re keen to get your home off gas but not sure where to start? Lots of help is available. Come to a community forum to find out how you can save money on your energy bills while also helping the climate and environment. Wednesday 26 August, Coburg Library Meeting Room, 6.30 – 8 pm
Who is the forum for?
Anybody who wants to reduce their energy bills and benefit from renewable energy, including home-owners and renters. It is also for people who might face challenges in getting access to affordable and renewable energy, for example through low-income, language barriers, or living in apartments or older homes.
It will be particularly relevant to people living in Merri-Bek and surrounding areas, but all are welcome.
What will it cover?
The forum will be guided by your questions, but topics to be covered include:
- Basics you can do to your home to make it more comfortable and energy efficient. Where can you get advice and assistance?
- Rooftop solar and batteries: who can get them? What financial assistance is available? How do you find a reliable installer?
- Electrification and getting off gas: how to start? How much will it cost? What support and help is available? How much can you expect to save?
- Keeping your bills down: how your energy bills are structured and what you can do to reduce them.
Who will be there to answer your questions?
MC for the forum will be Tim Baxter of Rewiring Australia. Tim will use his wide knowledge and experience to guide us through the process of making homes more sustainable, and energy bills lower, while benefiting from renewable energy.
Other experts at the forum include:
- Ari Pickering of Energy Justice project, Friends of the Earth. Ari will talk about why electrification and getting off gas matters and why it’s important that no one misses out.
- Donna Luckman, Zero Carbon Merri-Bek – Merri-Bek Council is doing a great deal to help people access affordable and renewable energy. Donna will explain the services and support Council provides and how you can access them.
- Paul Kooperman, SEC Victoria – Paul will talk about what the SEC does to help people through the process of electrification and getting off gas.
- Brendan Lang, Get Off Gas – Brendan is an electrician who specialises in electrification and getting off gas. Brendan’s expert technical knowledge will be available to answer your questions.
Forum organisers also include local residents who have gone through the process of electrification and getting rooftop solar and batteries, in houses and apartments, and can offer peer support to attendees.
Time permitting, we will also be able to provide some brief information about the support available to businesses and community groups.
